Under the caption 'Pacific Forum highlighted climate change...' the cartoon shows an archipelago of Pacific islands swamped with rubbish and barely above sea-level. From the comfort of a first-world aeroplane comes the comment 'With all the rubbish that gets dumped, the locals won't have to worry about about any rising sea levels!'
At the Pacific Forum held in the Marshall Islands in September 2013, the leaders of the Pacific stated that climate change was the greatest threat to thee peoples of the region. This was especially in the case of the many low-lying Pacific islands and atolls affected by rising sea levels. The Marshall Islands, for instance, was so desperate for space that it was using rubbish to create new land.
