- Description
During 1916 Dowling worked as a medical dispenser at Hornchurch Hospital and in July was transferred to the Command Depot and Codford. He continued to suffer the after effects of his injuries received at Gallipoli. In October a Medical Board decided he was unfit for further service and he was shipped home to New Zealand on 29 Oct aboard the hospital ship 'Maheno' and was discharged from military service in January 1917
