Comprise two indexed press copy letter books running from 1896 to 1905. The letters are to the Foreign Mission Committee of the Presbyterian Church in Victoria, and to individuals passing on mission news, as well as orders for supplies, and observations on the people and languages of Malekula. Also, lists and details of teachers both European and indigenous, and reports on teachers and students.

Leggatt served as a Presbyterian missionary for some 25 years in the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu), mainly at Aulua Mission on Malekula. He is noted for his linguistic work and his ethnographic observations.
