Description: The scene is the interior of a church with a marriage service about to begin. The groom whispers into the vicar's ear that he hopes he can 'whip through this bit mate' because he wants to watch a rugby match between the Springboks and the All Blacks. All the men nearby are looking very pleased, but the women less so. Notes accompanying the cartoon in 'Having a ball' read 'It is not uncommon for calendars to be checked before dates are set for weddings, engagement parties and other important occasions to make sure they are not competing with equally important rugby test matches'.
