Photographs of early Auckland and Wellington debentures from 1845. The wording on the notes is of the form "On presentation of five of these notes We promise to pay the Bearer the sum of Five Shillings in Government Debentures". The companies issuing them are R & D Graham, J & H MacFarlane, Crosbie, Aurora Tavern, James Smith & Co, P Murch baker, A Hesse, and the Colonial Treasurer. Includes a presumably humourous one in which the bearer promised to pay in Antipodean Ginger Beer.
