Note on back of file print reads: "Paling school and residence built in 1918. First school (and residence) run by the Presbyterian Church at Ruatahuna. Sister Annie Henry was the first teacher. In Feb 1917 the school was started in a whare owned by Chief Taiwera but in 1918 this building was erected."
