Map of the district around the Tauranga Harbour with a marked boundary as described under the provisions of the New Zealand Settlements Act 1863. Includes the areas entitled 'Lands proposed to be granted to natives' which has claims detailed. 'Puna block purchased from Ngaiterangi, Ngatimaru, Ngatitamatera, Tawera and Ngatipaoa tribes' as well as 'Katikati block arbitrated on December 1864, purchased for Ngatiterangi & Ngatitamatera tribes' which include extensive lists of tribal names and monetary amounts in sterling paid for land purchases. Land is described as good land, broken land, forest etc. Places, rivers and streams, islands and inlets are named. Ongare is marked as the scene of Tani's massacre, 1840. Nine notes give information about claims, land ownership and some payments.
This map incorporates a reduced copy of the coastline of the Tauranga Harbour drawn by Theophilus Heale who carried out surveying of the Tauranga district.
