Description

Scenes at Hui Topu, the first all Aoteoroa Anglican Maori hui, May 1962, Turangawaewae Marae, Ngaruawahia. Includes 6 images of groups, including kuia, sitting at the doorway of Te Mahinarangi meeting house on flax mats; 1 image of a man making a speech in front of the meeting house; 3 images of groups of women; 2 images of a unidentified clergyman. Three women in frames 8 and 9 have been named by an unidentified attendee at the hui as Jean Hohua, Werawera Hohua and Rosie Walters (nee Hohua). Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
