Merle Perry won the Virginia Mayo Beach Personality Quest at the Civic Theatre, Auckland, on 28 January 1950. The prize was a trip to Australia by Tasman Empire Airways Limited flying boat. The photographs document the competition and the trip.
American actress Virigina Mayo was a popular movie star during the 1940s to1950s. An Auckland based beauty contest using her name was held circa 1950.
