Description: Scenes of the jubilee of a convent school (possibly St Patrick's) and of Blaketown and its school in 1957. The convent reunion shows ex-pupils grouped by the year they attended the school, a dinner, a table of trophies etc. The Blaketown jubilee is marked by a procession of floats, the creation of a Miss Jubilee, a dinner etc. Also included are a two older copy negatives of Greymouth and scenes on the wharves with what may be a shipwreck and the grounded vessel the Abel Tasman. The prize was a trip to Australia by Tasman Empire Airways Limited flying boat. The photographs document the competition and the trip. American actress Virigina Mayo was a popular movie star during the 1940s to1950s. An Auckland based beauty contest using her name was held circa 1950.
