Description

Correspondence chiefly concerned with Houston's interest in historical matters: Correspondence between Alfred Trimble, Findlay and Houston concerning the fight at Turuturu-mokai and the actions of Michael Gill there. Also included is the latter's application for a Social Security benefit, accompanied by newspaper clippings about this action, and a statement by Gill (1909). Letters between C P Rei, R M Gore, G M Lysaght, Livingstone Baker, the Registrar-General and Houston about information on Charles Kane or Jack Kane (Cain). Letters between Chief Surveyor and Houston concerning name of Maori pa (Tahuahua). Name finally supplied by Tamaka Awarua in South Taranaki (1959). Letter from Ray Sorrenson to Houston re information about Stewart Newall and the whereabouts of his note book (1960)
