Group, including Father James McDonald, alongside a Roman Catholic Church at Opanaki, Northland, probably in 1885. Photographer unidentified.
Father James McDonald returned to missionary work among Maori in Northland in 1880, after a 15-20 year absence. The photograph was probably taken during a tour of the far north in 1885. Source of information: Auckland Diocesan Catholic Archives.
The album caption, which indicates that this image was taken at Maungapohatu, is incorrect.
