Description

Daily record of life as a farmer at Pakaraka, as Chairman of the Bay of Islands County Council 1876-1899, and as a member of the Legislative Council 1882-1905. Detailed descriptions of farming activities, road building in the Bay area, local church matters, and local society. Post-1882 diaries contain daily accounts of his work as a Legislative Councillor during the annual parliamentary sessions, records of meetings with politicians and government officials and references to legislation of the time, particularly that dealing with social and native affairs.

Sir Patrick Buckley is referred to in the diaries between 1884-1896.
