Sid Desborough pruning Sydney, a kiwifruit plant on his property at Summerlands, north of Manakau. Photograph taken ca 22 August 1981 by Evening Post staff photographer Ross Giblin.
Sid Desborough pioneered kiwifruit cultivation in Horowhenua. He began planting at Summerland ca 1974, and named his first plants after people working at the orchard at the time.
