He has short hair, moko, and a kiwi feather cloak fastened on his right shoulder, and wears two huia feathers in his hair A copy by John Hugh Boscawen of an aquatint, the frontispiece in Narrative of a nine months residence in New Zealand by Augustus Earle (London, Longman, 1832). The copyist has added feathers to the subject's hair and changed a woven flax cloak to a kiwi feather cloak. Description: Two head and shoulders portraits of Maori menl, both with moko. The left-hand figure is seen full-face, the right-hand figure in profile From Malerische Reise um die Welt, derived from engravings after Louis De Sainson, who in turn derived his work from his own earlier engravings and drawings, from the drawings of Louis Lejeune and from the illustrations to Cook's voyages. Malerische Reise um die Welt was the German translation of Dumont d'Urville's 1834 publication Voyage pittoresque autour du monde. The right-hand figure is after Sydney Parkinson's 1784 engraving 'Head of Otegoongoon, son of a New Zealand chief, the face curiously tattooed. The left-hand figure is after Louis Auguste de Sainson's lithograph of 'Rangui, l'un des chefs de Shouraki' published in 1833.
