The National Library of New Zealand, Samoa Capital Radio and Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision invite you to a special screening of ‘’O ata fa’asolo mai Samoa i aso anamua’ (Samoan film).

Join us in celebrating Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa | Samoa Language Week and Samoa Independence where we are looking back in the past to help inform our future.  

The National Library of New Zealand, Samoa Capital Radio and Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision are hosting a special screening of ’O ata fa’asolo mai Samoa i aso anamua (Samoan film) for Samoan Language Week. The event will showcase a combination of archival Samoan footage from four films in the Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision collection.

The film will share snippets from Samoa in 1919, 1921,1925 and 1965. These films share daily life in Samoa, construction of a traditional fale, traditional feasts, dancing and much more.  The films to be featured are:

About the speakers

Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision — We are Aotearoa New Zealand’s audiovisual archive. Our purpose is to hold our nation’s audiovisual heritage in safe keeping and make it widely accessible. 

Samoa Capital Radio — Samoa Capital Radio was established in 1992 and broadcasts mainly in the Samoan language. Government sector programmes are mainly in the Samoan language or bilingual (English and Samoan).
