Hazel Martin photograph album

Description: Album compiled by Hazel Martin, with 'Photographs' printed on front cover, with black and white photographic prints mounted and loose items laid in, including postcards and newspaper clippings, many related to her fiancee Harold (Swanee) Swanson, Gunnery Sergeant (USMC), who died at Tarawa on 20 November 1943. Album also includes printed invitation to a dance of the "Staff Non-Commissioned Officers of the Eighth Marines - United States Marines" held at Majestic Cabaret in Wellington, on 10 August 1943. Also includes birthday card from parents to Swanson, and a handwriting analysis for Swanson. Newspaper clipping recording posthumous award of Purple Heart and Ribbons awarded to Swanson. Also material relating to New Zealand Eagle Club - an association of New Zealand wives and fiancees of American Servicemen. Loose photographs laid in include group portrait of women, most likely members of the New Zealand Eagle Club, and portrait of Hazel Martin at piano, and portrait of subject holding ukelele, by Princess Betty Studio Wellington.
