Includes letters to and from John Cawte Beaglehole. Correspondents include his parents, wife, son Timothy, and various friends and scholars. Also includes papers relating to his life, his career as a historian, to his advocacy for the arts, for academic freedom and for civil liberties, letters of congratulation on his being awarded the Order of Merit in 1970, letters of sympathy sent to his family after his death, a file of his poetry, papers relating to his interest in typography and printing and other papers.
These papers were brought together by Timothy Beaglehole as part of the research work for his biography: `A life of J C Beaglehole, New Zealand scholar' (2006), and for `I think I am becoming a New Zealander: Letters of J C Beaglehole, chosen and edited by Tim Beaglehole' (2013).
