Description

Items collected by David Oswald Tomlinson. Chiefly photographs in an album showing cyclists at bicycle races in Christchurch between 1948-1950 and circa 1950s. Photographer and compiler of album, unidentified.

The collection also contains three album pages with photographs of unidentified motorcyclists racing, circa 1940s; military photographs taken circa 1939-1950s, and a photograph of staff of Queensland Insurance Company, 1909.

Provenance: Donated by Barbara Allan, Wellington, 2012. Donated items were found among her late father, David Oswald Tomlinson's belongings. Mr Tomlinson worked for the Wellington City Council and sometimes collected items which had been previously discarded.

Description: Items collected by David Oswald Tomlinson. Chiefly photographs in an album showing cyclists at bicycle races in Christchurch between 1948-1950 and circa 1950s. Many cyclists and events are named, with information about the race results, and brief comments regarding the photographs and the cycling events. Includes photographs taken at the Canterbury Centennial Games in December 1950. Also includes photo-mechanical prints autographed by Jan Derksen and Arie Van Vliet and some newspaper cuttings dated 1966 and 1979 that relate to cyclists included in the album. Note on back of print reads 'LAC Eddie Edgar Broad' -Unidentified members of RNZAF at Harewood, Christchurch, circa 1939-1945. Group portrait of approx 100 men.
