Description

A collection of satirical cartoons by Ronald Edwin Kennedy relating to social and political news and current affairs in New Zealand and internationally.

The New Zealand related cartoons feature topics and poltical figures such as: Holyoake, Muldoon, Kirk, and Lange as political leaders, the 1981 Springbok Tour, unemployment, sport and education, as well as other social phenomena such as weekend trading, petrol rationing with carless days, and the introduction of random breath testing in 1983.

Some cartoons feature topical news or social events in the Waikato or Auckland Regions. Some cartoons feature none time bound topics such as parenthood, and the nature of male and female roles and behaviour.

The cartoons relating to international political issues feature: the Olympic Games, Middle East conflict, the Vietnam war, and apartheid in South Africa.

Many cartoons feature a small dog as a commentator on the topic of the cartoon. Cartoons include the cartoonist credit "Ronken" as a holograph signature or as a printed name.

Ronald Edwin Kennedy lived in Hamilton, and worked at the Waikato Times as a cartoonist between 1967 and 1984.
