Original drawings by various artists, of native birds on celluloid inserted into cards with a printed decorative border, and chromolithographic prints of New Zealand plants and landscapes, all prepared as greeting cards and presented as a sample album
62 watercolours, 48 chromolithographs, attached to album pages, usually four to a page, over 29 of 47 pages. Cover has textured surface and blind stamping around the edge of the cover, front and back
The album has at least two pages cut from it; one remains loose within it. Two of the bird drawings from one of the cut pages are no longer with the album
It is reasonable to suggest that many of the watercolours of birds featured in the album were based on the illustrations by J G Keulemans in 'A history of the birds of New Zealand' by Walter Buller
A further, later A D Willis sample album was acquired by the Library in 1911 (E-068)

Description: Shows a view looking from the harbour entrance into the harbour, with a sailing ship and a small steam vessel. The Pencarrow lighthouse at the eastern entrance can be seen on top of the cliff to the right. The message included, upper and lower left, reads 'With many Christmas greetings' The cast iron Pencarrow lighthouse, on a strategic location once occupied by Maori at the entrance to Wellington harbour, was first lit on 1 January 1859 to guide seafarers before being discontinued in 1935.
