Description

Photographs taken by Robert E Wells between 1923 and 1996. The collection covers scenes in the Wanganui and Taranaki regions in the early 1920s, Wellington Teachers college in 1926, scenes in the Mokau district 1927-1932, views in rural North Island 1930s-1950s, and scenic views of New Zealand 1970-1990s.

Robert E Wells trained as a teacher at Wellington Teachers' College 1925-1926. From 1927 until the 1950s he taught at rural schools in Taranaki and North Auckland. During this period he was an active amateur photographer, and his work was featured in weekly magazines and agricultural publications. After his retirement from teaching in 1970 he became a full time photographer, specialising in scenic views of New Zealand.
