Description: Views of the park at Ham House, Ham Common, and Ham church. Views of London include the city from the dome of St Pauls Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, the Cenotaph, and London Zoo. Chartridge village Buckinghamshire, the surrounding countryside, and a woman friend or relative, and her children. Sheerness, Kent, its band stand, beach, and bowling green. This album resulted from a trip to England by HMS Dunedin on which A W Pearson served from 1924 to 1936. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).

Tour of duty on HMS Leander

Description: Naval parade and line up on Dunedin Wharves. Unidentified (probably) Australian City. Ford motor factory, Gracefield, lower Hutt. Group photographs of naval seamen taken on the deck of the ship. View of the ocean from the deck of HMS Leander. Colombo, Sri Lanka which includes street scenes, a policeman, a classical styled customs building, Buddahs and other statues and temple interiors, and the local people. An Iranian Oil Company well head in the ocean. Passing through the Suez Canal, and views of (probably) Suez and the Canal Authority building. A military camp. Aden, and the ancient dam there, restored by Lambert Playfair. Shipboard life includes group photographs of sailors, and men associated with groups of empty shell cases. There is a large section on Bombay. This includes images of the city's Victorian public buildings - Victoria Terminus, Taj Mahal Hotel, Rajabai clock tower at the university, Municipal Corporation building, Afgan Memorial Church of St John, Gateway of India, Prince of Wales Museum, Flora Fountain. There are also mosques, street scenes, modern waterfront apartments, gardens, markets, an outdoor laundry operation, local people, and general views of the city from across the Harbour. Bombay is followed by three pages of unidentified warships, and two views of men of the deck of the ship. At the end of the album there are six images of a torpedoed ship sinking, and others of the survivors in lifeboats, coming towards, and alongside, HMS Leander. The album ends with a military parade in Wellington, and trucks loaded with wreaths lined up in Parliament Grounds. A researcher has identified the torpedoed ship as the Italian merchant raider Ramb I which was sunk by Leander in the Indian Ocean on 27 Feb 1941, Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).
