Photographs of members of the Te Whaiti family and their associates. Includes images of people and events, particularly relevant to the Wairarapa area. Taken by various photographers ca 1880s to 1980s. Negatives include images of men on horses in costume, men in suits, family group portraits and a Māori group performing kapa haka.

Description: Photographs associated with the Ratana Church, particularly relating to performing arts, taken by unknown photographers, between 1922 and 1927. Comprises: - "The choir and orchestra of the Ngati Kahungunu taken at Ratana on Good Friday, 14th April 1922". - Two images of groups of Maori women and girls, dressed in white blouses, with dark skirts, piupiu, and tipare (headbands) which have the word "Ratana" written on them. - An image of "Te Hahi Ratana, January 25th, 1927" which shows the external building of the Ratana Temple, with people and cars outside. This image has some damage, and nearly one quarter of the top right hand corner of the photograph is no longer there. - A group of Ratana people visiting the home of T Akahashi - Minister of Agriculture, in Tokyo. Description: Photographs of people and events at various Wairarapa marae, ca 1900 to ca 1915, taken by D Wilton and unknown photographers. Comprises: - Major H P Tunuiarangi dressed in trousers and piupiu, holding a taiaha. He stands in front of Nukutaimemeha (meeting house). - A group portrait including Hoani Paraone Tunuiarangi (third man from left). - A wedding ca 1900 at Te Ore Ore Marae. The image shows eight brides, and many other men, women and children in front of Nga Tau e Waru (meeting house). - A meeting occurring in and surrounding the porch of an unidentified whare. May be a political meeting ca 1900. - Three photographs of a tangihanga, probably for someone from the Te Whaiti family, ca 1890s, by unknown photographer. Images show the whanau pani on the verandah of an unknown whare (including the casket, surrounded by photographs), the casket being carried by a horse drawn carriage (with a procession following) around a paddock, and the casket (with kakahu laid on top) being carried by pallbearers with a group of people watching. - A copy print of a group of men and two women ca 1900. This is a copy of a negative from the Turnbull Library with the reference number 1/2-021460. This is described as follows: Photograph of a group of Maori men on the porch of a house, with three women in peripheral positions; Tamahau Mahupuku is in the middle of the group; one man holds a book. Photograph taken circa 1900-1904. Named individuals include: Pahira, Rangi Te Kaiwaho (Rangi-taka-i-waho?), Te Raki, Tuhua Te Huku, Kingi Ngatuere, Ropoama, Tunuiarangi, Ani Pikonoa, Ropiha, Kahungunu, Tamahau Mahupuku, Potangaroa, Wikitoria Te Maari. Accompanying information - The names on a note accompanying the copy print names Tamahau Matenga, instead of Tamahau Mahupuku. It appears that it is Tamahau Mahupuku (not Matenga).
