Father Antoine Marie Garin - Journals

Date: 8 Apr 1846-19 Jan 1863

From: Marist Fathers. Archives : Papers relating to the Catholic Mission in New Zealand

Reference: Micro-MS-0669-02

Description: These journals are intermittent in coverage and those for the period 2 Sep 1846-8 Dec 1849 are apparently missing from the General Archives. After Garin went to Nelson he appears to have been an occasional diarist only. The inventory therefore notes nearly all entries from the year 1850 onwards. In addition to the journals there is a precis by Garin of Pompallier's published history of the mission, followed by notes on the history of the Wellington diocese, with particular emphasis on Nelson. Also some notes on Nelson schools and churches, the latest note having been written in 1882. Arrangement: There is some disorder in the chronological sequence in the microfilm Quantity: 1 microfilm reel(s). Finding Aids: See summary of contents in inventory pp 18-27.
