Hataitai, Hataitai school jubilee, events associated with Hataitai Methodist church, Wellington during the 1953/54 Royal visit which includes images of the Queen, general views of Wellington locations.
The photographer Gordon Alfred Binsted was born in Wellington and lived until he was about 21 at 79 Rakau Rd Hataitai. He began working as a photographer at Wellington Hospital then moved to the National publicity Studios, and then to the Dominion Physical Laboratory at Gracefield.
In 1953 he took a position with the Christchurch photographic firm, Green and Hahn. In 1955 he moved to Ashburton where he was the manager of Ayton's [photographic] Studios untill 1958. That year he bought out Prattley's Photographics and ran his own business until his death in 1975
The photographs in this collection are personal images taken of Wellington, the activities of the Hataitai Methodist Church, and photographs of Wellington buildings illuminated for the Royal Visit of 1953/1954. There are also photographs of the Royal visit taken while he was in Christchurch working for Green and Hahn

Description: Mainly relates to activities associated with Hataitai Methodist Church. One group of images records the Sunday School picnic of 1948 which included transport to the Eastbourne Ferry on a specially chartered tram. Another group records a young peoples camp held at Linton Military Camp, Labour Weekend, October 1948 Most of the other images are individual or group photographs of clergy, lay persons, and church groups. Description: All but one of the photographs in this collection date from 1946 to about 1949. There are a number of group photographs of teenagers.
