Photographs taken by Neville Lewers while teaching on the West Coast in the 1930s and 1940s, and while working as still photographer for the National Film Library, ca 1950-1972.
Subjects include Plunket in Christchurch, gold mining, scenic and landscape views, farms and farming, cities and towns, sports such as dog racing and basket ball, a Fitness Week parade, factories, timber mills, the milk industry, children, whitebaiting, ships, railway trains, Maori carving and tukutuku, yachting, vegetable growing, and electric power projects.
The main locations are Canterbury, the West Coast, Wellington, Napier, and Northland.
