Description

This album, apparently compiled by Dudley Alexander (Lord Ranfurly's aide-de-camp and secretary), begins with a tour of France (which may have been undertaken by Alexander alone) in January 1897, continues with the Ranfurly family's journey out to New Zealand via Canada, Hawaii and Fiji; and concludes with images of the family's time in New Zealand, mostly in the South Island and in the years up to 1900. the album includes two photographs taken in the 1860s showing the old Government House in Wellington, originally built by Edward Gibbon Wakefield. These have been attached to the inside front cover, and may have been added retrospectively.
