Description

Slides of decorative stained glass in New Zealand houses, public buildings and shops, and art works by New Zealand artists working in stained glass.

Arrangement: Slides housed at PA12-1431 to PA12-1473

In 1980 Jock Philips and Chris Maclean were granted money from the Alexander Turnbull Library towards their research into decorative stained glass used in new Zealand. The Turnbull money was used to photograph windows throughout the country. They deliberatly left out our heritage of ecclesiastical stained glass as they were aware that other researchers were working in that area. Their book "In the Light of the Past" was published in 1983 and still stands as the only publication attempting an overview of this aspect of our heritage. No one has yet produced a book on ecclesiastical stained glass in New Zealand. At the end of their project they deposited their slides in the Turnbull Library.
