Description

Recordings collected by Judith Fyfe as research material for her book `The matriarchs'. Women were chosen to represent aspects of their generation, who were regarded as matriarchs or leaders within their family, community organisation or profession. The interviewees were Agnes Tuisamoa, May Manoy, Sophie Kaa, Fuzz Barnes, Mother Aquinas, Nellie Schroder, Beeban McKnight, Harata Solomon, Davina Whitehouse, Aileen Daly and Lady Margaret Trotter.
