- Description
Both inward and copies of outward correspondence were kept by Kidman mainly in a chronological sequence. The broad chronology has been retained though has been brought into alphabetical order within each year; correspondence from 1995 to 2001 is arranged alphabetically. The series commences in 1960 and although there are the occasional personal and family correspondence it is chiefly a record of her emergence as a professional writer. Correspondence with publishers and support to would-be writers and other writers and requests to speak at various functions are all here through to 1986. Undated correspondence was left in sequence if that was its obvious place. If not, they were filed at the beginning of the year they were found. Some clippings and receipts occur as they were part of the sequence. The correspondence relating to her poetry was not kept by her in this sequence and so follows her poetry section. Kidman's later outward correspondence, 1987 onward, is entered on an Amstrad PCW computer. Each item has not been physically described as this would have made the task much longer. Future demand may well dictate the need for this. All correspondence is restricted. Correspondence from A2006-024 was arranged alphabetically and then chronologically, unidentified correspondants were placed in the `miscellaneous' folder. Correspondence from A2010-055 was arranged chronologically, with inward and outward correspondence filed in the same sequence, however the sequence of outward correspondence seems incomplete. Correspondence from A2010-055 also contains certain documents, proposals and pieces of writing which were filed together with this correspondence. Correspondence from A2014-087 is ordered alphabetically and includes some personal correspondence.
