The collection comprises personal papers, original poetry, research articles and essays, collections of traditional stories, folklore and mythology, mainly of Manihiki Island origin, records of the Manihiki Island Council and of the Cook Islands Library and Museum Society, genealogies and personal diaries.

Collection was changed to a multi-format collection in August 2022 as part of the Utaina project. Audiovisual material of the same provenance, which had previously been transferred to Oral History and Sound, was reunited with the collection at this time.

- Partly restricted material - Personal genealogies received from Kauraka Kauraka in 1990 (part of series 2) are embargoed until the end of 2040 and work diaries received from him in 1996 (part of series 1) are embargoed until August 2046. Access to other diaries and genealogical material in series 1 and 2 requires the written permission of the family of Kauraka Kauraka. Series 3 is unrestricted. Access to most of the recordings requires the written permission of the family representative. Access to some recordings is restricted for longer periods, according to the Donation Agreement.
