Description: Photographs on album pages: photograph of Mount Peel Station, its interior and grounds including Mr Acland in his study, his daughters and their friends identified by inititals, including one of L D Acland and B B Acland, the latter knitting a sock, and the Church of the Holy Innocence viewed across a field of hay stacks with the forest planted by Acland behind it; more of the same women boating and picnicking, including a view of a gorge taken by Harriet Acland, a church interior and Bishop Harper playing cricket with a young boy; Ilam homestead covered in clematis with balconies and verandahs and extensive grounds next to the Avon River, and the Watts Russell family group at Pareora August 1894 with their dog and saddled horses in the background; the West Coast Times printing office with the men outside it, C G Tripp and family and a Centerbury view; and two views of Tripp's homestead at Orari. Description: Photographs of yachts and yachting in the Wellington area. They include: yachts under construction or repair, a dry dock between two rows of boatsheds, the boatshed of the Brighton Power Boat Club, a yacht called the Igdrasil in the fiords, the Muratai in 1946, the Banika at Akaroa in 1948, the Hex leaving Wellington for the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, the Patari and Pacific at Purau, Lyttelton (taken by Allson Wright of Hereford Street, Christchurch), some men and women on the launch Tarepa ca 1940s, the Ludwig in 1925, and the Rawene in 1934. Also included are a photograph of a man working on an exhibit of a pa tuwatawata in the Dominion Museum with the maihi of a meeting house or pataka behind him and other carvings along the walls and a photograph of two men working in the taxidermy department with a variety of birds and bird skeletons on the table. Survey camps, rivers, waterfalls, family, and friends

Description: Many of the photographs were taken when H E Girdlestone was working as one of a survey team in the Taihape area. Views of the survey camps variously descibed as near Taihape, on the Hautapu River, as Oroua Bridge, Mataroa Township, Raketapauma, and Rangiwaea Block. He has included scenic views of native forest from some of these and other locations. Most notably he has taken photographs of many waterfalls on the rivers and streams in the area. Many of these are on the Turakina river. One called Rereaupiko Waterfall is formed where the Mangoiwa Stream falls into the Hautapu River. There are also views of the Whanganui River and one of a load of passengers on the "Wairere," a Whanganui River boat. Other scenic views have been taken in the Trentham area, Upper Hutt. These include a stream and native forest, the Hutt River, and cattle in pasture. Other locations around the Hutt Valley and Wellington are a bridge over a stream in the Wainuiomata water reserve, Young's Gardens Karori Wellington, and Views of the South coast looking towards and from Sinclair Head. There are local volunteer military units who participated in a marching competition on the 5th of October 1901. Those named are the "Highlanders", "Kelburns," "College Old Boys," "Civil Service," and "Post and Telegraph." Finally there are many images of family, friends and collegues. These include a group of adults and children at a house in Featherston and shows people playing croquet, members of a survey team in a tent, Girdlestone and a fellow worker engaged in chopping down a large forest tree, groups of young women and men in their sunday best, a group of men in fancy dress playing instruments, the children and teacher of Mataroa School photographed outside what is probably the school room in March 1901, and people in kayaks and canoes on the River Avon Christchurch.
