Grimble, Arthur Francis (Sir), 1888-1956

Colonial administrator, author and ethnologist. Grimble went to the Gilbert Islands as a cadet administrative officer in 1913 and became Resident Commissioner in 1926. He spent time while he was there gathering local songs, stories and oral traditions. Author of "Pattern of islands" (1952) and "Return to the islands" (1957).
