Description: Shows Wellington Savage Club members dressed in cloaks and grass skirts, assembled on beach with Chief Savage (Professor Thomas Hill Easterfield) making a speech. Macbeth may appear as artist at left, with the Club treasurer (George Toogood) to the right of him. One member reads "The king of the fortunate isles" (not listed in ATL pre-1984 catalogue, although William Pember Reeves wrote "The fortunate isles" in 1897). Other persons are not identified by name, but appear to be individual likenesses. Box in Manuscripts and Archive (85-027-4/07) contains envelope labelled as containing the key to this picture, but it is not in that envelope. A korero was the club's fortnightly meeting, culminating in an annual invitation korero at the Town Hall, where speeches and musical items took place. Minutes of the Wellington Savage Club 1905-1912 (MS 85-27 Folder 1/1) contains annual reports for 1908 and 1909, which feature the following: George Toogood, Thomas H. Easterfield, H? Plimmer, E. A.
