Description: Album compiled by a member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 1914-1918. It contains views of New Zealand Expeditionary Force camps in England, the Grey Towers Hospital, Te Whare Puni club for New Zealand soldiers, Royal Bath Hospital (at Harrogate), Oatlands Park Hotel (in use as a convalescent hospital), Malta, Gallipoli (including the landing party, in the bivvies, Anzac Cove and Walker's Ridge) and Capetown. Activities at the various camps and convalescent hospitals included mending gear, playing two-up, skinning hares for dinner, playing bowls, snow-fights. Painted title page, on back of front cover had the following signature: "Harry Thos Peat". Album belonged to Mr Peat?, photographs taken by Mr Peat? Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: Includes letters E S Bibby wrote to his family while on active service, diaries 1917-1919, military documents, photographs, and ephemera relating to his military service and correspondence with researchers about his recollections of aspects of World War One, 1987-1989. Also includes letters written to family members by his brother, Bruce, from military camps in New Zealand, 1918. Also includes photographs taken or collected by E S Bibby while on military service. Other photographs of Edward Stuart Bibby's war years and of Waipawa peace celebrations are at Library references PAColl-9161, PAColl-2838-1m, and PAColl-5636-1. Edward Stuart Bibby spent most of 1916 in military camps in New Zealand. He sailed for England with the 23rd Reinforcements for the New Zealand Expeditionary Force aboard the `Ruapehu', leaving Wellington on 14 March 1917. Shortly after arriving in Etaples training camp in France in July 1917 he developed pneumonia and was shipped to England where he spent time at New Zealand military hospitals in Walton, Hornchurch and Codford. After his recovery he was sent to Sling Camp and returned to Etaples in February, 1918. In the following month he rejoined the Otago Regiment and saw action during the remainder of the war during which time he was wounded. After the war ended he returned to Sling Camp and left England for home aboard the `Tahiti' in May 1919. Quantity: 40 b&w original photographic print(s). 33 folder(s). 3 volume(s). 1 album(s).
