Allan, Joseph Stuart, 1861-1930

Artist and caricaturist. Student at Wellington College from 1873-1874. See Early history of Wellington College / Frank Leckie (P 373.931 LEC 1934). Author of an unpublished autobiography 'Fair Hay'. Cartoonist for the Evening Press and Evening Post in the 1880s. Provided some of the illustrations to John White's Ancient history of the Māori. May have been the J S Allan who was the scenery painter for the Wellington Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society in 1895.
