Description: Miss Ruddick's account of the portion of her childhood which she shared with Kathleen Beauchamp (Katherine Mansfield), 1898-ca 1900; memories of the Beauchamp family, Wellington Girls' High School, holidays and picnics. Includes notes on Katherine Mansfield by others Marion arrived in New Zealand in 1898 from Canada. Her family had become acquainted with Mr and Mrs Beauchamp on the voyage, and met socially while in Wellington. Marion was also in the same class as Vera and Kathleen Beauchamp. The family returned to Canada about 1900. Included is a letter from executor of Miss Ruddick's will, to Mrs Vera Bell outlining provenance of the item, 27 Nov 1970. Description: view from Tinakori Hill looking over Thorndon, the inner harbour, Te Aro and Mount Victoria. The foreground shows several large houses, including the Queen Margaret College building in Hobson Street, and Thomas Turnbull's large house in Grant Road, later the Italian Embassy. The swing bridge in Hobson Street is also shown part-way along Hobson Street on the left. Katherine Mansfield's birthplace is also in the view, two houses to the left of the swing bridge. Molesworth Street is shown running in a straight line towards the Government Buildings on the right. There are several ships in the harbour and tied up at the wharves. Copy of an original in one of the sketchbooks of Charles Edward Hammond, in the State Library of Victoria. Either a watercolour or an annotated copy of a chromolithograph. The Library holds a copy of the chromolithograph, based on a photograph and catalogued as artist unknown.
