Description: Cartoon shows American president Jimmy Carter at the left clinging to the wrecked tail of a military plane crashed in the water near a sign reading "Iran". At the right Senator Edward Kennedy greets him, sitting on a partially submerged car near a sign reading "Chappaquiddick". This refers to two incidents which brought opprobrium upon Kennedy and Carter: 1. Chappaquiddick - On 19 July 1969, Kennedy crashed a car in which Mary Jo Kopechne was a passenger, and left the scene of the accident, on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts. He received a suspended sentence. This incident may have influenced Kennedy's decision not to campaign for President of the United States in 1972 and 1976. 2. Operation Eagle Claw - an American military operation ordered by President Jimmy Carter to attempt to put an end to the Iran hostage crisis by rescuing 52 Americans held captive at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, Iran on 24 April 1980.
