New Zealand. National Publicity Studios
NPS
Established in 1945, when the earlier Publicity Office ( established 1924; part of the Department of Internal Affairs) was divided in two. The other part became the National Film Unit. See article in the "Mirror", October 1953, pages 8-9, 43 ff. This article contains photographs of Marcus King (artist), L G McCullough (artist), Godfrey Edward Coward (model-maker, 1898?-1965), Mr F Gibbons (film developer), and Miss Dorothy Hall (model-maker).
The purpose of the unit was to provide advice and services to New Zealand government entities for publicity material aimed at conveying a favourable image of New Zealand. National Publicity Studios had two main sections: Photographic ( photographers, laboratory, photo library and facilities for audio-visual production) and Art (graphic art, display art, display workshops and silkscreen facilities).
In 1987, the National Publicity Studios was disestablished and replaced by Communicate New Zealand.
