Postcard photographer. Began publishing postcards around 1906 and was initially based in Wanganui, before moving to Northcote, Auckland. Lived and practiced in Queen Street, Northcote, 1909-1910. From 1911 until death in 1948, lived at 21 Masons Ave Ponsonby. From 1920 until ca 1930 operated as Price Photo Co from studio at 300 Ponsonby Road. His early postcards were imprinted "The W.A.P. Colour Photographic Series, Wanganui Photo Co NZ", which became "Wanganui Photo Co, Northcote, Auckland, NZ" and then "W.A. Price Photo Co". A research paper has been compiled by Andrew Coffey and is available at the Fine Arts Library, University of Auckland.

Description: Shows a group of seven men and women in Edwardian dress, standing and seated on a log bridge over a stream, in a bush setting. The subjects are probably coal miners and their wives The title label on the surface of the painting is partly missing, so that the title reads: "Log b ... Coal Creek". Inscriptions: Recto - beneath image - (On label stuck to surface of painting): [Title] Compare a very similar photograph 'Man and woman standing on a log bridge across Coal Creek, near Greymouth [ca 1903]', photographer William Archer Price, reference number 1/2-000112-G. The painting may be based on another photograph of additional members of the same group. The Library holds other similar but not identical views, including F-009368-1/4, showing a group of four seated men, three standing men and two women and a child on the same bridge, but taken from a closer point from the nearby left bank; also F-009369, showinga group of eight men, a child and two women at Coal Creek mining settlement.
