Letter details Romilly's involvement with the labour ships recruiting islanders in the Pacific to work in Queensland, his disagreement with Sir George Des Voeux (governor of Fiji from 1880-1886), and the spread of yellow fever. Recounts collecting evidence in respect to the murder case of a local half caste "Ludlow" on Matupi Island. Also comments on the kidnapping of natives and the labour trade in general.
