Anthropologist and clergyman. Born in England, Fison arrived in Australia in 1856, and served with the Australasian Wesley Methodist Missionary Society in Fiji from 1863 to 1884. During that time he was Principal of the Training Institution for Natives at Navuloa. Did extensive ethnographic work in Fiji. When he returned to Australia he became editor of the `Spectator', a Melbourne church paper (see Pacific Manuscripts Bureau website)
