Brewer, Leigh, 1933-2013

Dancer and choreographer. Born Wellington. Described as an "infant prodigy" in Evening Post, 6 July 1939, Page 7. Established Wellington City Ballet, in 1960, and with James Carney produced what at the time was claimed as New Zealand first full ballet, "Children of the Mist." which Leigh choreographed. Two of her works were danced by the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company under Poul Gnatt in the 1960s. Worked as a choreographer with the Wellington Operatic Society and with Opera Technique, Wellington, in the 1960s. 1979-1980 spent ten months in New York at Lee Theodores American Dance Machine studying aerobic dance. Involved with dance performance at Expo 70 in Osaka, Japan, in collaboration with Richard Campion.
