Foundation student at St John's Theological Collge, and later became headmaster of St Johns School for Boys, Auckland from 1891. Severed connection with St John's College in about 1902. During his clerical career he was vicar of various Auckland parishes, editor of the diocesan Church Gazette, chaplain to Bishop W G Cowie, and in 1939 was appointed an honorary canon of St Mary's Cathedral. Description: Shows a schoolmaster in cap and gown pulling along an unwilling schoolboy, past a signpost whose upright is labelled "Rev. P. S. Smallfield". The four directional arms read: "F. Bullock-Webster"; "Tamaki"; "St John's College"; "Auckland". Alexander Turnbull Library has artist's "Memories of sport and travel fifty years ago..." (Auckland: Whitcombe & Tombs, 1938) at NZ&P 920 BUL 1938. Frank Bullock-Webster was born in 1885. The Reverend Percy Scott Smallfield was headmaster of the St John's School for Boys (Auckland) from 1891. Smallfield left St John's ca 1902. Inscriptions: Unsigned and undated. Description: Shows a view across fields and farms, and several houses and buildings, towards One Tree Hill in the right distance. Notes on the backing board recto identify the two-storeyed house with verandah in the centre as Rocklands in Gillies Avenue. Mount St John's is the hill at the left, and the house on that hill is given as 27 Mt St John's Avenue (possibly called "Prospect"?). Next on the right is identified as possibly the Hesketh house which burned down. Streets are identified as Ranfurly Road, Gillies Road, and Manukau Road.
