Ludlam, Alfred, 1810-1877

Came to New Zealand in the ship 'London' in 1840. He had a section in Ghuznee Street, Wellington, and a farm 'Newry' at Waiwhetu, which began grinding corn in 1845. Known for sheep breeding and wools; and for gardening. He imported plants, and helped secure for Wellington the Botanical Gardens, which he endowed with plants from his property. Buried at Bolton Street Cemetery, Wellington.
