Description: The three scenes in this cartoon each illustrate some aspect of closer trans-Tasman co-operation. In the top left it is 'co-operation in finance and industry'. Two customs officers are looking at a computer on a table belonging to a passenger. One is saying to the other "he says it's a computer to monitor New Zealand investments, supplied by a big Australian investment organisation called the 'St George's Rugby League Club'". In the lower left the subject is 'the most favourable treatment possible for each other's citizens'. In the scene Australian rugby players are trying to decide whether they should let the All Blacks beat them. In the lower right the subject is 'frequent discussion and consultation on matters of common concern'. Description: Cecil Stanley Findlay born Dunedin 1891, 4th child of William Findlay. Outlines family background and describes childhood in Otago. Describes swaggers, remittance men and some of the Chinese men who frequented parent's hotel. Recalls his arrival in Napier where he worked for Henry Williams and Son Ltd, the biggest hardware and building materials firm on the East Coast - they also owned the Bolton Foundry engineering shop and a plumbing business. Talks about Napier. Describes the old route of the Tuteakuri River which was reclaimed. Mentions World War I (1914-1918) and explains how he was one of the first to volunteer with friend Charlie Collins when the notice of declaration of war was declared but was turned down as medically unfit. Discusses his career as a customs agent which continued until retirement in 1978. Describes requirements for the job concerning tariffs and regulations and gives details of a typical day's work. Explains New Zealand Customs Agent's Licence.
