Description: A photograph taken by Malcolm Ross on the cruise of HMS Mildura to the Cook Islands, Niue and Tonga, October 1900, during which the Cook Islands and Niue were annexed on behalf of New Zealand. Shows the crowd on the pier at Aitutaki, awaiting the arrival of Lord Ranfurly, 11 October 1900. Charles Hill-Trevor records in his diary (PA1-f-143, p 13) that the crates on the end of the wharf were full of fruit and copra to be loaded on board SS Ovalau. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).
