Hislop, Thomas William, 1850-1925

Lawyer, politician and mayor of Wellington. Arrived in Otago in 1856; qualified as a lawyer in 1871; practised law in Oamaru until 1890, when he moved to Wellington and practised with A de B Brandon. Was mayor of Wellington, 1904-1908. Elected Member of Parliament for Waitaki, 1876-1880, and Oamaru, 1885-1890. Appointed Colonial Secretary and, later, Minister of Education and Justice, 1887-1890.
