Webster, H B, 1855-1942, Webster, Harold Bullock, 1855-1942

Artist. Born in England, he went to Canada in 1874 as a cadet with the Hudson Bay Company. On leave in England in 1879 he met Thomas Russell, reputed New Zealand millionaire, who offered him work with Waikato Land Company. He arrived in Christchurch in 1881, worked at "Longbeach" the station of John Grigg, then went to Waikato to his own land. Wrote to William Rolleston from Geraldine in 1885 re forming a Canterbury Corps for Geraldine district. Visited England in 1887-1890, and on his return began the Waikato Hunt Club; later rode in Auckland with the Pakuranga Hounds. (See entry in Una Platts' "Nineteenth century NZ artists" (1980)).

Two smaller buildings sit further to the right, on the shores of the lake. A small, lone yacht sails on the water.
